Taskforce unveils special anti-crime patrol unit to tackle criminality in Lagos
The Lagos State Taskforce has launched a dedicated Anti-Crime Patrol Unit as part of intensified efforts to curb criminal activities and enforce environmental laws across the state.
Speaking at the agency’s headquarters in Bolade, Oshodi, the Chairman of the Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, said the initiative was necessitated by the need to decisively flush out criminal elements posing threats to residents and visitors.
He explained that the newly inaugurated unit would operate as a rapid-response and standby team, with a mandate to arrest and prosecute offenders involved in a wide range of illegal activities. These include drug peddling, street urchinism, activities of “area boys” (popularly known as Omotaku), raids of criminal hideouts, environmental violations such as indiscriminate waste disposal, attacks on government officials on lawful duty, quackery, and the operations of “one-chance” robbery syndicates.
Akerele stressed that the Taskforce remains committed to restoring order and maintaining public safety, adding that surveillance and enforcement operations would be significantly strengthened across identified flashpoints in the state.
“We will be all out to stamp out criminal activities in the State this year. No stone will be left unturned to compel criminals to desist from their acts or relocate from Lagos State,” he said.
He further assured residents of the agency’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information to law enforcement authorities.
The round-the-clock Anti-Crime Patrol Unit, according to the Taskforce, is a strategic intervention designed to proactively detect, deter, and neutralize criminal activities before they escalate into threats to public safety.
