Security Forces Uncover IPOB/ESN Arms Cache in Enugu, Recover Heavy Weapons

Security forces operating in Enugu State have uncovered a major arms cache allegedly linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in a significant breakthrough under Operation EASTERN SANITY II.

The operation was carried out on June 9, 2026, by troops of the 82 Division Garrison under Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Enugu State Command.

According to military authorities, the operation was intelligence-driven and followed actionable information obtained from previously arrested IPOB/ESN suspects. Acting on the intelligence, security personnel conducted a precision raid in Gariki, Enugu South Local Government Area, where they uncovered a concealed arms depot hidden inside a zinc structure disguised as a piggery.

A thorough search of the location led to the recovery of a large cache of weapons and ammunition. Items recovered included General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), an RPG-7 launcher tube, AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, a tear gas launcher with cartridges, several AK-47 magazines, 270 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 478 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.

Military authorities said the recovered weapons and arrested suspects have been handed over to the DSS for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Army described the operation as a demonstration of the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration in combating security threats in the South-East. It noted that the success reinforces ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal and terrorist networks and sustain the peace-building process across the region.

Operation UDO KA reiterated its commitment to protecting lives, safeguarding national sovereignty, and maintaining pressure on groups threatening public safety and national unity.

Security agencies also urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to assist ongoing operations aimed at restoring lasting peace and security in the South-East.
