AIG Jimoh Pledges Tougher Security Measures Across Lagos, Ogun

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 2 Command, Olorundare Jimoh, has pledged sustained efforts to strengthen security in Lagos and Ogun states, urging residents to continue supporting the police with credible information and constructive feedback.

Jimoh gave the assurance in Lagos while receiving the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Integrity Youth Alliance, Abuja, Kehinde Adewole, who visited the Zone 2 headquarters in Onikan to present him with the organisation’s “Outstanding Excellence in Security Leadership Award 2026.”

Adewole said the award recognised Jimoh’s leadership, professionalism and commitment to accountability-driven policing.

He cited the recovery of more than 115 stolen vehicles, prosecution of suspected cult members and peaceful security records during major festive periods as some of the achievements associated with Jimoh’s tenure as Lagos Commissioner of Police and his current position as AIG.

He also commended the deployment of 250 police personnel and 50 tactical vehicles to strategic locations, which he said had contributed to improved responses to security incidents in parts of Lagos.

Receiving the award, Jimoh said the honour was a recognition of the collective efforts of police officers and other personnel serving under his command.

He urged the officers not to become complacent, but to see the recognition as motivation to intensify their commitment to protecting lives and property.

The AIG said his previous experience as Commissioner of Police in Lagos had given him valuable insight into the security challenges confronting Lagos and Ogun states.

According to him, the two states are economically strategic because of their extensive commercial and industrial activities, making the protection of major transportation and economic corridors connecting them a priority.

Jimoh said Zone 2 was implementing intelligence-led policing strategies to prevent crime, protect critical infrastructure and enhance public safety across the two states.

He also commended residents for their cooperation with security agencies, particularly through the provision of information that had assisted in crime prevention and detection.

The AIG urged members of the public to report cases of police misconduct through appropriate channels, assuring that genuine complaints would be investigated.

He said petitions against police officers, including senior personnel, should be formally submitted to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.

Jimoh further said the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, had continued to promote initiatives focused on community partnership, improved training and restoration of public confidence in the police.

He pledged that Zone 2 would sustain engagement with communities and other stakeholders as part of efforts to strengthen security and deepen public confidence in Lagos and Ogun.

Also speaking, human rights advocate Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, described the award as well deserved.

Awosanya attributed the relative peace recorded in Lagos to teamwork, intelligence-based policing and stronger engagement between the police and members of the public.

He maintained that the police remained a reflection of the society they serve, adding that internal mechanisms existed within the force to address misconduct irrespective of the rank of the officer involved.
