Police operatives in Enugu State today successfully recovered a heavy-duty truck stolen earlier the same day from Benin City, Edo State, following a swift interception along the Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway.

According to a press release from the Enugu State Police Command, officers attached to the Ozalla Division and the Distress Response Squad (DRS) recovered the MAN Diesel truck at approximately 6:30 a.m. at Ozalla in Nkanu West Local Government Area.

The vehicle had been stolen from where it was parked in Benin City at about 12:05 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025.

The operation was initiated after the Command’s Control Room received distress information indicating that the stolen truck was heading towards the expressway. Upon sighting the police operatives, the suspects, described as "interstate criminal suspects," immediately abandoned the vehicle and fled into the nearby bush.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed that the recovered truck has been secured for further investigative actions, and operatives are actively trailing the fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the personnel for their "swift and coordinated response," reiterating the Command’s commitment to proactive policing. He also urged the public to remain vigilant and utilize the Command’s emergency hotlines to promptly report any criminal situations.
