IGP Charges Newly Promoted DIGs on Courage, Integrity, and Professional Leadership
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has urged newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) to demonstrate courage, fairness, and integrity in the discharge of their duties, stressing that leadership at the highest level of the force demands discipline and unwavering commitment to the rule of law.
Speaking on Monday in Abuja during the decoration ceremony for the senior officers, the police chief reminded them that their elevation comes with greater responsibility to uphold the ideals of professionalism, accountability, and service to the Nigerian people.
According to the IGP, the strength of any police organisation is not measured solely by its authority, but by the character, discipline, and sense of duty of those entrusted with leadership. He noted that officers at the rank of DIG must show firmness in decision-making, fairness in command, and dedication to national interest at all times.
He described the promotion as both recognition of past contributions and a fresh call to serve the nation with honour, urging the officers to work collectively towards building a police force that earns public confidence and effectively meets the country’s security needs.
The IGP further tasked the senior officers to prioritise intelligence-driven policing, improve cooperation with other security agencies, strengthen operational coordination across commands, and ensure strict accountability within the ranks.
He emphasised that their conduct and leadership style would play a major role in shaping the culture, direction, and public perception of the Nigeria Police Force, adding that the DIGs would be central to ongoing efforts to reposition the force into a more professional, technology-driven, and citizen-focused institution.
While congratulating the newly decorated officers, the police boss expressed confidence that they would justify the confidence placed in them and contribute meaningfully to strengthening national security.
