ICPC Denies Arrest, Investigation of Justice James Omotosho, Warns Against Fake Video
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has dismissed as false a viral social media video alleging that the Commission arrested and is prosecuting Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commission described the claim as malicious and misleading, stressing that no such action was taken against the judge.
ICPC clarified that it has neither arrested nor invited Justice Omotosho for questioning, adding that the Commission is not conducting any investigation involving the judicial officer as claimed in the circulating video.
The anti-corruption agency further stated that the content was designed to create confusion among the public and damage reputations, urging Nigerians to ignore the report and avoid sharing unverified information capable of causing unnecessary tension.
According to the Commission, it does not have the mandate to investigate serving judicial officers, noting that it holds members of the judiciary in high regard, including Justice Omotosho and other judges across the country.
ICPC reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and due process in carrying out its statutory responsibilities, advising the public to rely only on official statements from the Commission for accurate information about its activities.
The statement, signed by ICPC spokesperson J. Okor Odey, also urged social media users to verify the authenticity of any information before circulating it online.
