NAF Airstrikes Destroy Boko Haram Strongholds in Mandara Mountains, Kill Several Fighters
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out targeted air operations against suspected Boko Haram hideouts in the Mandara Mountains area of Borno State, dealing a significant blow to the insurgent group’s activities in the region.
The strikes were conducted under Operation Hadin Kai, with fighter aircraft engaging locations identified as Wa Jahode and Loghpere, believed to be major camps linked to the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad faction of Boko Haram.
According to the Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the operation followed detailed intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions which confirmed the presence of terrorist facilities in the mountainous terrain.
He explained that the air component executed coordinated precision strikes that hit key targets, including suspected logistics storage sites, command positions, and defensive structures used by the insurgents.
Ejodame noted that the bombardment led to the neutralisation of several fighters and disrupted supply routes used to sustain their operations, thereby weakening the group’s ability to launch further attacks.
He reaffirmed that the Nigerian Air Force would continue sustained aerial offensives in support of ground troops to ensure the restoration of peace in troubled parts of the country.
The Mandara Mountains, which lie along the Nigeria–Cameroon border, remain one of the most difficult operational environments for security forces due to the rugged terrain. Security sources say the area has recently seen renewed insurgent movements, including the movement of supplies and the reported presence of senior Boko Haram commanders.
