Joint Security Forces Rescue Abducted Children, Teachers from Ansaru Terrorists in Oyo Forest ……..Presidential directive sparks intelligence-led operation as military, police, DSS, NIA, DIA and NSCDC force terrorists to free victims unconditionally after weeks of sustained pressure
A coordinated joint security operation has secured the unconditional release of children and their teachers abducted by suspected Ansaru terrorists in the Oyo National Forest, following an intelligence-driven search-and-rescue mission ordered by President Bola Tinubu.
The operation, coordinated by the Defence Headquarters, involved the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The victims, who were abducted on May 15, 2026, regained their freedom after weeks of sustained military pressure that forced the terrorists to abandon their stronghold and release them without conditions.
Security sources said the Joint Inter-Agency Task Force, operating under the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, launched a multi-pronged offensive into the Oyo National Forest, advancing from several axes over a three-week period to isolate and corner the terrorists.
Backed by continuous Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), as well as precision air support from the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigeria Police, troops destroyed key terrorist communication facilities and logistics bases while ensuring the safety of the abducted children and their teachers.
Simultaneously, security agencies dismantled the terrorists' support network by arresting suspected informants and collaborators in neighbouring communities, as well as detaining family members of Ansaru operatives in different parts of the country.
The sustained offensive reportedly triggered internal divisions within the terrorist group, leading to widespread defections and ultimately compelling the insurgents to release the captives unconditionally.
The rescued children and their teachers are undergoing medical examinations and psychosocial support before being handed over to the Oyo State Government for reunification with their families.
Senior military officials described the mission as a landmark success, saying the seamless integration of intelligence, air power and ground operations demonstrated the effectiveness of Nigeria's joint security architecture in combating terrorism while protecting civilian lives.
