Leaked Documents Reveal Police Role in VGC Land Dispute, Clear AIG Jimoh of Land Grab Claims

Fresh documents have emerged detailing the circumstances surrounding police deployment to a disputed property in the Victoria Garden City (VGC) area of Lagos, contradicting allegations that Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Olohundare Moshood Jimoh used his office to seize land or frame businessman Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi in connection with murder investigations.

The documents, obtained at the weekend, indicate that police officers were deployed strictly to maintain law and order following formal petitions submitted to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police by developers claiming ownership of the property.

According to the petitions, dated December 5, 2025, and January 20, 2026, the developers, through their lawyers, sought police protection over alleged threats to their lives, criminal breach of trust, fraudulent extortion and repeated attempts to disrupt their possession of the land.

The petitioners maintained that they possess valid Contracts of Sale and Lagos State Government Consent establishing their ownership of the property following a 2022 settlement with the land's original owners.

They further alleged that Akanbi, who initially introduced himself as a land consultant in 2019, fraudulently took control of more than 40 plots of land located along Orchid Road, Alpha Beach Road and Agungi through false representations. The petitions also accused him of falsely presenting another parcel of land along Chevron Drive as belonging to his family, a claim allegedly contradicted by the subsequent settlement reached with the actual owners.

The developers stated that despite paying Akanbi about ₦1.5 billion in settlement, he allegedly mobilised thugs who invaded the property, assaulted workers and disrupted ongoing construction.

Attached photographs reportedly showed inscriptions spray-painted on the perimeter fence, including warnings that the land was "not for sale" and claims that it belonged to the Ojomu royal family. The petitioners consequently requested police protection while the inscriptions were removed and asked authorities to prevent further interference by Akanbi and his associates.

The documents have also cast doubt on allegations made by social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), who accused Jimoh of orchestrating murder charges against Akanbi to facilitate a land takeover.

Police sources maintained that the deployment of officers was purely in response to complaints from the developers and not connected to any attempt to acquire the property.

The sources also dismissed suggestions that Jimoh was linked to the investigation into the death of singer Mohbad, describing such claims as misleading. They noted that Mohbad died in 2023, while investigations had already progressed through the Lagos State Coroner's proceedings before being transferred to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja, long before Jimoh assumed office as Lagos State Commissioner of Police on February 18, 2025.

According to the sources, Jimoh neither investigated the case nor played any role in its handling, adding that attempts to associate him with the matter were based on misinformation.

The AIG has consistently denied allegations of corruption or receiving any money or property in relation to the VGC dispute, insisting that anyone with credible evidence should present it before the court, while maintaining that no amount of pressure or public criticism would deter him from carrying out his official duties.
