Sango-Ota, Ijebu Ode Axes Cleared as Ogun Police Impound Vehicles, Dismantle Roadside Shanties
The Ogun State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on traffic congestion with decisive enforcement actions across major corridors, impounding six vehicles and removing illegal structures under its ongoing Operation “No Traffic Gridlock.”
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, the Command carried out coordinated operations in the busy Sango-Ota corridor, targeting long-standing causes of gridlock.
Led by the Area Commander, officers conducted overnight operations to dismantle shanties and illegal structures encroaching on road setbacks—many of which had contributed to persistent congestion in the area. The exercise continued into the early hours of the morning, beginning around 5:00 a.m., with enforcement teams clearing key obstruction points and impounding six vehicles found violating traffic regulations.
The impact was immediate, as residents and commuters reported noticeably improved traffic flow along the corridor. Police say monitoring teams remain on ground to ensure sustained compliance.
A similar operation was carried out at the Ijebu Ode Toll Gate axis, where indiscriminate parking of heavy-duty trucks and roadside trading had hindered vehicular movement. Enforcement teams, led by the Area Commander in the area, systematically cleared truck build-ups and removed obstructions, restoring order and easing traffic along the highway.
The police command has warned that illegal parking, roadside trading, and any form of obstruction on highways will no longer be tolerated. Offenders, it stressed, will face arrest and prosecution.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Command stated that Operation “No Traffic Gridlock” will continue across affected areas until full compliance is achieved and traffic flows seamlessly.
Residents have also been urged to support the initiative by reporting traffic-related issues through designated emergency lines, as authorities work to maintain order and prevent a return to прежvious congestion levels.
