Lagos: police dismiss 4 officers over killing of 7 traders at owode-onirin

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the dismissal of four police officers over their involvement in the tragic killing of seven traders in the Owode-Onirin area of Lagos.

According to the Command, the dismissed officers were allegedly brought from Nasarawa State by the principal suspect identified as Ariori and were implicated in the unlawful killings.

The Nigeria Police Force said the officers were found culpable after an internal investigation into the incident that shocked residents and traders in the area.

Speaking at the Ikeja Police Officers’ Mess, the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, assured the public that the matter had not been swept under the carpet and that justice would be served.

He disclosed that the investigation into the Owode-Onirin killings is nearing completion, revealing that ballistic and autopsy reports are already guiding the prosecution process.

Jimoh stressed that the Command remains resolute in ensuring that all those involved in the killings face the full weight of the law.

“We want the public and the families of the victims to know that nobody can stop us from ensuring that justice is done. We will leave no stone unturned and will not be intimidated by anyone,” he said.

The police chief further emphasised that all suspects connected to the case would be prosecuted, noting that the courts remain open to hear every case.

He reiterated that the police remain committed to their constitutional responsibility of maintaining law and order, adding that no individual or group would be allowed to obstruct the course of justice.

According to Jimoh, about 98 per cent of the investigation has been concluded, with the Command continuing to take decisive steps to protect lives and property across Lagos.

He also urged residents and traders to remain vigilant while assuring them of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safety and justice.

The tragic incident occurred in August 2025, following a violent clash between suspected land grabbers and traders in the Owode-Onirin area, which led to the death of seven traders and sparked widespread outrage.
