EFCC Arrests Abuja-Based Agent Over Alleged N288m Property Fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken into custody an Abuja-based property agent, Hajia Adama Adamu, in connection with an alleged fraud involving N288 million.
The arrest was carried out by operatives from the commission’s Ilorin Zonal Directorate following a formal complaint lodged against the suspect. The EFCC disclosed the development via its official X (formerly Twitter) platform.
According to the agency, the suspect is accused of collecting the sum from a complainant, Alhaji Tanko Yawale, under the guise of facilitating the purchase of a high-value property located on Haile Selassie Street in the Asokoro area of Abuja.
Investigations revealed that after receiving the funds, the agent allegedly failed to provide legitimate documentation for the property. The situation reportedly escalated when the suspect became unreachable, prompting the complainant to seek intervention from the anti-graft agency.
The EFCC noted that the case highlights ongoing concerns surrounding real estate transactions in Nigeria, particularly in high-demand locations like Abuja, where fraudulent intermediaries continue to exploit unsuspecting buyers.
The commission reiterated its warning to the public to exercise due diligence by verifying property ownership and documentation before committing funds to any transaction.
