COAS Leads High-Powered Security Assessment Team to Plateau, Reaffirms Commitment to Lasting Peace
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday, April 2, 2026, led a high-powered delegation of security chiefs on an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in Jos, Plateau State, as part of ongoing efforts to restore calm and entrench lasting peace in the region.
On arrival, the COAS was received by the Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, underscoring strong civil-military cooperation and a shared commitment to tackling emerging security challenges.
During the visit, Lieutenant General Shaibu received a comprehensive operational briefing from the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola. The briefing detailed ongoing operations and proactive strategies being implemented in collaboration with other security agencies to contain threats, safeguard lives and property, and stabilize affected communities.
As part of his engagements, the COAS also met with community leaders and residents, reassuring them of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to protecting all law-abiding citizens. He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies by complying with the curfew and cooperating fully with ongoing operations, while continuing their lawful activities.
The Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, Hon. Dachung Bagos, commended the COAS for the timely intervention, noting that the visit of the nation’s top military leadership would boost public confidence and strengthen trust in ongoing security efforts. Similarly, the Councillor representing Naraguta ‘B’ Ward, Hon. Ladi Dangyok, expressed appreciation for the swift response, describing it as a reassuring gesture to affected communities.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its resolve to work closely with sister security agencies, the Plateau State Government, and other critical stakeholders to decisively address security challenges. This coordinated approach, it noted, reflects a firm commitment to restoring enduring peace, strengthening community resilience, and ensuring that Plateau State remains safe and secure for all.
