Troops Rout Terrorists, Restore Hope As Displaced Mansur Residents Returns Hope
Residents of Mansur in Alkeleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State have begun returning home in large numbers after months of displacement, following successful military operations that dislodged terrorists from the area.
The community had been abandoned since February 26, 2026, when armed insurgents invaded the village, forcing families to flee and leaving homes deserted and farmlands unattended.
The breakthrough came after troops of the 33 Artillery Brigade executed Operation BUGUN KARKANDA III, a major clearance offensive directed by Army Headquarters. The operation built on the earlier Operation WUTAN DAJI, which targeted terrorist enclaves across parts of the North-East and North-Central.
Military operations led to the clearance of key strongholds including Dajin Madam Forest in Plateau State, Kumbodoro Forest in Taraba State, as well as Yankari Game Reserve, Bogwas and Rimi in Bauchi State. Additional areas secured include Odere Forest, Shirnagol, Wanka and Kukarlwa in Plateau, alongside Kumbodoro town and Angwan Jauro Sule in Taraba.
With the terrorists flushed out, the military transitioned into a consolidation phase—handing over liberated communities to security agencies and relevant government bodies to ensure stability and facilitate the safe return of displaced residents.
On Wednesday, emotional scenes unfolded in Mansur as families trooped back, singing and celebrating their return after nearly two months in exile. Residents were seen clearing overgrown compounds and assessing damage to their homes.
Community leaders praised the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for restoring peace, describing the return as a turning point for the community.
For many residents, the continued presence of troops now symbolizes safety and renewed hope rather than fear.
