U.S. Delivers ‘Critical’ Military Supplies to Nigeria; Deepens Strategic Defense Pact

The United States has officially delivered a fresh batch of military supplies to Nigerian security agencies in Abuja, marking a significant escalation in bilateral defense cooperation.

The delivery, confirmed by U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, is designed to bolster Nigeria’s ongoing offensive against terrorism, banditry, and transnational organized crime.

In an official statement released via X, AFRICOM described the equipment as "critical" to the success of Nigeria's frontline operations.

*"U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership." U.S. Africa Command.

This delivery is the direct result of a high-level diplomatic mission to Washington in November 2025. Led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, the Nigerian delegation which included the Attorney General and the Chief of Defence Staff engaged in intensive talks at the Pentagon and the White House.

Key outcomes of those discussions now being implemented include: Enhanced Intelligence Sharing: Real-time data exchange to track insurgent movements.

A newly established binational body to coordinate counter-terrorism strategy.

Expedited processing of requests for advanced hardware, including the highly anticipated AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters.
