Alagbon Probe Stalls as Nigerian-American Seeks IGP's Intervention Over Alleged Threat to Life by Lagos Lawmaker ...Commends IGP Tunji Disu's professionalism, urges impartial investigation

Confusion has surrounded an ongoing investigation at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, Lagos, following allegations that a case involving an alleged threat to life against a serving member of the Lagos State House of Assembly has failed to make progress despite repeated police invitations.

A Nigerian-American citizen and serving United States Army personnel, Mr. Yusuf Mustapha has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP),  Tunji Disu, to urgently intervene in the matter, while commending the police chief for his commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the rule of law.

In a petition addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, Yusuf requested the immediate intervention of the police leadership in an investigation being handled by the Homicide Section of the FCID, Alagbon, over allegations of threat to life, intimidation, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

According to the petitioner, the complaint was filed against Hon. Mrs. Mosunmola Sangodara Rotimi, the lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Yusuf stated that following the submission of his petition, detectives commenced an investigation, during which a woman identified as Mrs. Dupe Adedokun whom he alleged was sent to monitor or ascertain his whereabouts—was arrested and voluntarily made a statement to investigators.

He further disclosed that Hon. Rotimi was subsequently invited by the police to respond to the allegations but allegedly failed to honour several invitations.

According to Yusuf, the lawmaker was first invited to appear on June 16, 2026, but did not honour the invitation. She later indicated she would report on July 16, 2026, but again failed to appear. A further reminder fixing July 20, 2026, was also reportedly not honoured.

The petitioner expressed concern that despite his repeated follow-up with investigators, the matter appeared to have stalled, heightening fears over his personal safety and confidence in the pace of the investigation.

"I am increasingly concerned that the investigation appears to have stalled despite the respondent's repeated failure to honour police invitations. This has heightened my fears for my safety," Yusuf stated in the petition.

While seeking the IGP's intervention, Yusuf praised the current leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, describing it as one committed to professionalism, accountability, and equality before the law.

He stressed that his request was not for preferential treatment but for due process to be allowed to run its full course irrespective of the status or public office of anyone involved.

The petitioner urged the Inspector-General to direct an immediate review and acceleration of the investigation at the FCID Homicide Section, ensure that all lawful investigative procedures are deployed to secure the cooperation of relevant persons, and guarantee that the case is handled impartially, professionally, and without fear or favour.

He also appealed to the police authorities to take all additional lawful measures necessary to ensure that justice is served in line with the Constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Yusuf expressed confidence that the Inspector-General would give the petition urgent attention, maintaining that he remained optimistic the Nigeria Police Force under the current leadership would ensure fairness, transparency, and justice for all parties involved.
