Nigeria’s Ambassador Lola Akande Presents Credentials to Swedish King

Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Sweden, Ambassador Lola Akande, has formally commenced her diplomatic duties in Sweden following the presentation of her Letters of Credence to King Carl XVI Gustaf.

The ceremony, held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, formally accredited Akande as Nigeria’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Sweden.

The presentation of credentials was conducted with the traditional pageantry associated with diplomatic ceremonies in Sweden, with Akande accorded ceremonial honours, including a corps marshal and formal procession to the Royal Palace.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone in Nigeria-Sweden diplomatic relations and formally recognised Akande as Nigeria’s accredited representative to the Scandinavian country.

Following the presentation at the Royal Palace, a reception was held in the ambassador’s honour at the Nigerian House in Stockholm.

The reception attracted a diverse gathering, including ambassadors and members of the African diplomatic community, officials of the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, members of the Corps of African Women Ambassadors, Nigerians resident in Sweden, Swedish nationals, members of the Swedish business community and other invited guests.

The occasion provided an opportunity to celebrate Akande’s formal accreditation while highlighting the longstanding diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Sweden.

Discussions and engagements at the reception also underscored opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation in key areas, including trade and investment, innovation, cultural exchange and people-to-people relations.

Akande’s accreditation is expected to usher in a new phase of Nigeria-Sweden diplomatic engagement, with emphasis on deepening bilateral cooperation and strengthening engagement with the Nigerian community, Swedish authorities, businesses and other stakeholders.

The development further reinforces Nigeria’s diplomatic presence in Sweden and provides an avenue for advancing mutual interests between both countries.
