ICPC, EFCC, CCB Commence Joint Training on Commonwealth Anti-Corruption Research

Nigeria’s three major anti-corruption agencies the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) have commenced a joint two-day training workshop on the Commonwealth Africa Region Anti-Corruption Research Project. 

The research initiative, spearheaded by the Commonwealth Africa Anti-Corruption Centre (CAACC), aims to identify prevailing corruption typologies and trends across Commonwealth African countries, strengthen data-driven anti-corruption strategies, and enhance collaboration among regional agencies.

Speaking at the opening session held at the ICPC Headquarters, the Chairman of ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN** (represented by the Director of Operations, Mr. Shehu Yahaya), stressed the necessity of collaborative research in the fight against graft.

“Corruption is not a singular act; it is a complex ecosystem of behaviours, incentives, and vulnerabilities. It manifests differently across institutions, sectors, and societies," the Chairman stated. “Understanding these typologies is essential for designing targeted, effective, and sustainable anti-corruption strategies.”

Dr. Aliyu explained that the study represents a major step toward building an evidence-based approach to anti-corruption work, aligning with the ICPC’s mandate to prevent corruption through research, education, and systemic reforms.

The ICPC boss emphasized that the CAACC-initiated study requires collaboration among major anti-corruption agencies across the region.

"The findings will inform policy, uncover patterns, reveal truths, and shape the future of governance in Nigeria and Africa at large,” he noted.

The Chairman urged participants, who include representatives from the ICPC, EFCC, CCB, and other key stakeholders, to utilize the training to not only enhance their technical capacity but also to strengthen their ethical commitment and analytical skills.

The workshop is expected to foster innovative research approaches to deepen the fight against corruption in Nigeria and across the wider Commonwealth African community.
