Easter: LASTMA Deploys More Personnel, Warns Against Drunk Driving and Speeding

As Lagos braces for increased movement during the Easter celebrations, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has intensified its traffic management operations with the deployment of additional personnel and critical logistics across the state.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, issued a strong advisory to motorists and all road users, urging them to avoid drunk driving, excessive speeding, reckless overtaking, and other unsafe practices capable of causing road accidents.

Bakare-Oki stressed that while Easter is a season of celebration, it often comes with increased pressure on the road network due to higher vehicular and human traffic.

“No festivity is worth risking lives. A moment of recklessness, whether through alcohol impairment or dangerous driving, can lead to irreversible consequences,” he warned.

To ensure seamless movement of people and goods, LASTMA has deployed an expanded team of officers to major highways, traffic corridors, transport hubs, business districts, recreational centres, and religious venues across Lagos.

The agency has also strengthened its operational capacity by positioning high- and medium-capacity tow trucks, as well as essential traffic management equipment such as cones, barriers, and response tools at strategic locations. This, according to the General Manager, will enable swift intervention in cases of vehicle breakdowns or traffic incidents.

“Our officers have been directed to intensify monitoring, ensure compliance with traffic laws, and promptly resolve any disruptions to maintain order on the roads,” he added.

Bakare-Oki reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, noting that all personnel are fully mobilised to manage the anticipated surge in traffic during the festive period.

He further appealed to motorists to exercise patience, obey traffic directives, and cooperate with officers on duty, emphasizing that road safety remains a shared responsibility.

The LASTMA boss also called on commercial drivers, transport unions, fleet operators, and logistics managers to sensitise their members on the dangers of overloading, speeding, and driving under the influence of substances.

The agency extended warm Easter greetings to residents and visitors in Lagos State, assuring the public of uninterrupted traffic management services throughout the celebrations. It also encouraged citizens to promptly report traffic violations, obstructions, or emergencies for immediate response.
