Top Boko Haram Commander Abu Khalid, 10 Others in Night Raid in Borno
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have recorded another major operational breakthrough with the neutralisation of a senior Boko Haram/ISWAP leader, Abu Khalid, alongside 10 other terrorists during a night operation in Borno State.
Abu Khalid, identified as the Second-in-Command of Boko Haram in the Sambisa Forest, was eliminated during a coordinated night offensive by troops of Sector 1, working in conjunction with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) under Operation DESERT SANITY.
The encounter occurred at about 11:00 p.m. in the Komala general area of Konduga Local Government Area, barely 24 hours after troops had neutralised another notorious Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, Julaibib, who was operating within the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle.
Military sources described Abu Khalid as a key figure within the terrorist hierarchy, responsible for coordinating operations and logistics across the Sambisa axis, making his elimination a significant blow to the group’s command and control structure.
Following the successful engagement, troops recovered five AK-47 rifles, loaded magazines, several bicycles, assorted logistics and food supplies, as well as large quantities of medical consumables believed to have been used by the terrorists.
Notably, no casualty was recorded among own troops during the operation.
The military disclosed that troops’ morale remains high as aggressive clearance operations continue across the Sambisa Forest, Mandara Mountains, Timbuktu Triangle, and other identified Boko Haram and ISWAP enclaves in the North East region.
Reaffirming its resolve, the Joint Task Force (North East) stated that operations would be sustained until all terrorist elements are neutralised and lasting peace and economic stability are fully restored to the region.
Meanwhile, the Military High Command has commended the troops for their courage, sacrifice and professionalism in the ongoing fight against terrorism and other criminal activities, urging them to maintain the current operational momentum.
