OGUN POLICE ARREST EIGHT ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS, RECOVER FIREARM, HIJACKED TRAILER TRUCK WITH 900 BAGS OF CEMENT
The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against organised crime with the arrest of eight suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate responsible for violent attacks and the hijacking of trailer trucks along the Papalanto–Ilaro and Owode–Idiroko corridors of the state.
This was contained in a statement on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP, Babaseyi Oluseyi, stated that the arrests followed a coordinated, intelligence-led operation that also led to the recovery of a hijacked trailer truck, nine hundred (900) bags of cement, and a locally made single-barrel pistol.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, operatives of the Anti-Robbery Squad attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, were deployed to intensify surveillance, activate intelligence assets, and discreetly track the criminal network.
Through sustained intelligence gathering, covert surveillance, and detailed crime-pattern analysis, detectives successfully penetrated the syndicate, leading to the arrest of eight key suspects at different locations across the state based on actionable intelligence.
The suspects arrest were namely Mogaji Sodiq a.k.a. “Ogbonṣ”,Adebowale Lekan; Ajah Peter; Ganiyu Razaq; Odeleye Ayoola; Egboja Amos; Bello Akeem and Olaifa Sunday
Investigations revealed that the suspects had conveyed the hijacked trailer truck after offloading most of the stolen cement to a warehouse. The warehouse was first tracked and recovered by operatives, leading to the seizure of the 900 bags of cement. Subsequent follow-up operations resulted in the recovery of a locally made single-barrel pistol used by the gang.
Further investigations established that the syndicate had carried out previous criminal operations, with intelligence findings exposing a coordinated pattern of organised theft targeting commercial supply chains. Intelligence is currently being exploited to track and apprehend other fleeing members of the gang, while efforts continue to dismantle the wider criminal network and identify accomplices and logistics channels.
The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention, and the protection of lives and property across the state. The Command assures residents and road users that sustained operations against organised crime will continue.
