Nigerian Navy Elevates 27 Officers to Commanders in Grand Ceremony
The Nigerian Navy has marked a major milestone with the promotion and decoration of 27 Lieutenant Commanders to the rank of Commander at the Headquarters Western Naval Command.
The colourful ceremony took place at the Officers’ Mess of Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT on Thursday, April 9, 2026, symbolising the officers’ transition into more strategic leadership roles within the Service.
Addressing the newly promoted officers, the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral AA Mustapha, congratulated them on their achievement, describing the elevation as both an honour and a call to greater responsibility. He emphasized that the rank of Commander demands higher levels of accountability, discipline, and leadership.
Rear Admiral Mustapha urged the officers to remain steadfast in upholding the Navy’s core values, maintain professionalism, and continue to display exemplary conduct in their duties. He also charged them to justify the confidence placed in them through dedication, loyalty, and hard work, while embracing teamwork to strengthen maritime security operations.
The highlight of the event was the formal decoration of the officers by the FOC, assisted by senior officers and spouses, creating a proud and memorable moment in their careers. The ceremony also served as a reaffirmation of their commitment to national service.
Senior naval officers, family members, and well-wishers were present to celebrate the achievement, adding to the significance of the occasion.
