The Kano State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on car theft, arresting four suspected members of a vehicle theft syndicate and recovering two stolen cars in separate intelligence-led operations.

According to a statement issued on Friday, April 10, 2026, by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, operatives of the Special Investigation Squad (SIS) carried out the successful operations.

In the first case, police operatives acting on credible intelligence swooped in during the early hours of March 31, 2026, arresting four suspects in connection with a stolen vehicle. The suspects—Abdurahman Hassan (51), Haruna Abdullahi (45), Hamza Sani Yunusa (45), and Alhaji Rabiu Mohammed Baba (45)—were apprehended in different parts of Kano State.

They were found in possession of an ash-colored Toyota Corolla LE, suspected to have been stolen from Ibadan, Oyo State. The suspects reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the vehicle’s ownership, prompting ongoing investigations by the police.

In a related development, the Command also recovered a black Pontiac Vibe valued at ₦8.2 million, earlier reported stolen by a female resident in Kano. The vehicle had been taken from where it was parked in Tarauni Local Government Area on March 14, 2026.

Following swift police action, the suspects abandoned the vehicle along Jibiya Road in Katsina State while attempting to flee towards the Niger Republic. The car was successfully recovered and has since been returned to its rightful owner, while efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Commending the operatives for their professionalism and commitment, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the role of intelligence gathering and public cooperation in achieving the successes.

Meanwhile, the Command has called on members of the public to assist in identifying the recovered Toyota Corolla LE, which remains in police custody. Anyone with valid proof of ownership is urged to report to the Police Public Relations Office at the Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano, or contact the investigating officer via 07063407910.

Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Police advised residents to adopt proactive security measures, including installing anti-theft devices, avoiding isolated parking areas, and reporting suspicious activities promptly through designated emergency lines or the “NPF Rescue Me” mobile application.

The Command assured residents that it remains steadfast in its mission to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure the safety of lives and property.
