ICPC Partners with RoLAC to Boost Data-Driven Anti-Corruption Efforts
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has collaborated with the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme (RoLAC) to enhance its officers' ability to collect timely and accurate data, focusing on improving institutional performance through evidence-based decision-making.
A two-day capacity-building workshop, funded by the European Union (EU), was recently held in Abuja.
The training was designed to equip ICPC officers with the skills necessary to effectively implement the Commission's strategy:
Strategic Action Plan (SAP) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).New data collection and reporting templates for accurate documentation of departmental activities.
Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, Chairman of the ICPC (represented by Mr. Oche A. Godwin), emphasized the necessity of a data-driven approach in modern anti-corruption work.
"The ICPC, being a lead institution in promoting integrity and combating corruption, must possess the capacity to collect, manage, analyze, and evaluate data effectively. This capacity is a strategic imperative for the Commission’s mission.”
The Chairman noted that robust data management will help the ICPC: Track investigative progress.
Assess the effectiveness of preventive initiatives.
Improve transparency and overall impact.
The workshop featured technical sessions focused on practical implementation:
ICPC Strategic Action Plan (2024–2028): Mr. Oche A. Godwin highlighted the need for flexible planning, risk assessment, and resource optimization within the plan.
Practicalizing the Annual Work Plan: Mr. Hilary Zira stressed how the Annual Work Plan aligns departmental activities with the measurable outcomes defined in the SAP.
The training included a hands-on component where participants practiced data entry, used reporting templates, and measured KPIs, ensuring they could translate theoretical knowledge into standardized documentation practices.
Dr. Emmanuel Uche, Component Lead of RoLAC, further affirmed that proper documentation is a critical tool for accountability and institutional learning.
