First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Hosts IGP’s Wife, Urges Enhanced Welfare for Police Families
The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for sustained efforts toward improving the welfare of police officers’ families as she received Mrs Mutiat Disu, wife of the Inspector General of Police, at the State House, Abuja.
During the meeting, the First Lady emphasized the critical role of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) in supporting families of personnel of the Nigeria Police Force. She encouraged Mrs Disu to intensify initiatives that would positively impact the lives of police officers’ spouses nationwide.
Speaking after the closed-door engagement, Mrs Mutiat Disu expressed her commitment to leveraging programmes under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to empower police officers’ wives across the country.
Mrs Disu, who also serves as the National President of POWA, noted that her interaction with the First Lady provided valuable insights into impactful social intervention programmes.
“The purpose of visiting her is to tap from her wealth of experience and to understand the programmes she has for the masses, and how POWA can benefit from them,” she said.
She added that the Renewed Hope Initiative would be instrumental in advancing healthcare, welfare, and empowerment programmes for members of the association.
“I have learnt so much within this short period of interaction, and I am confident that by working closely with her, our members will benefit greatly from RHI programmes. We will particularly focus on social interventions and healthcare support for police families,” she stated.
Mrs Disu further affirmed her readiness to collaborate with the First Lady in advancing initiatives targeted at women, noting that POWA’s structure aligns with the core focus of the RHI.
“What people should expect from me is a strong commitment to working with Mama on the Renewed Hope Initiative, especially as it affects women, since both RHI and POWA are women-focused platforms,” she added.
Mrs Mutiat Disu assumed leadership of the Police Officers’ Wives Association following the appointment of Tunji Disu as Inspector General of Police, succeeding Kayode Egbetokun on February 24, 2026.
