Investment in Quality Education is Catalyst for Socio-Economic Development, Says Summit University Chancellor, Dr. Adegunwa

The Chancellor of Summit University, Offa, Kwara State, and Chairman of Rite Foods Limited, Dr. Sulaiman Adebola Adegunwa, OFR, has identified investment in quality education as a catalyst for sustainable socio-economic development. 

Dr. Adegunwa made this statement while delivering his address at the combined 5th and 6th convocation ceremony of the University, held at the Alhaja Adiat Abegbe Makanjuola Lecture Theatre.

Dr. Adegunwa described the journey with Summit University as one of the most rewarding investments, emphasizing that the dividend is for both today and for posterity.

He appealed to well-meaning individuals to support the institution, stating:

“An investment in knowledge pays the best dividend. Let us join hands to lift Summit University high, open doors to quality education, and change the world for the better.”

The Chancellor also commended the dedication and financial commitment of stakeholders, noting that their support continues to strengthen the university’s foundation and growth trajectory.

Reflecting on the institution’s progress since he assumed office as the pioneer Chancellor in December 2023, Dr. Adegunwa highlighted significant achievements: Undergraduate programmes have increased from eight to 16 Six academic programmes recently underwent reaccreditation, securing full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

 Foundation stones were laid for four major buildings since the last convocation; one has been completed and two are nearing completion.

 Preparations are underway for the verification of resources for new programmes in the College of Law and the College of Health Sciences, with hopes both will be fully operational by the next convocation.

 The University recently received approval to operate a Campus FM Radio Station, a development intended to combat misinformation and position the institution as a champion of the knowledge economy.

The Chancellor specifically appreciated donors like osun Belo-Olusoga for their pivotal support.

The Vice Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer, Prof. Abiodun Musa Aibinu, confirmed the strong performance of the graduating class and thanked the Chancellor for donating the ongoing Senate Building project, which is now 30% completed.

A total of 319 students graduated, achieving the following results:

First-Class Honours: 26

Second-Class Upper Division: 164

Second-Class Lower Division:108

Third-Class: 25

Pass: 1

The University also conferred honorary doctorate degrees (Honoris Causa) on:

 Aderemi Muyideen Makanjuola

 Lateefat Olufunke Gbajabiamila

 A posthumous honorary doctorate degree in Business Administration was conferred on the late Tiamiyu Adebisi Olatinwo.
