First Bank of Nigeria Limited has announced a major partnership with the organizers of the first-ever E1 Lagos GP, an all-electric powerboat racing championship set to take place in the city from October 3rd to 5th, 2025.

The partnership, which aligns with the bank's long-standing commitment to sports and developmental initiatives, aims to drive human development while showcasing Lagos’s global relevance.

Driving Legacy and National Unity

Disclosing the collaboration at the E1 Lagos GP Stakeholder Immersion session, Olayinka Ijabiyi, the Acting Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communication of FirstBank, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to cementing national legacies.

“Our involvement in the E1 Lagos GP is about driving legacy and enabling the passions and aspirations that unite Nigerians,” Ijabiyi stated. “We recognize that sports drives us as a country, which is why through our First@Sports initiative, we continue to invest in platforms that inspire and elevate our people.”

FirstBank highlighted its long history of sports sponsorship, which includes supporting the Georgian Polo Cup for 105 years and the Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship for 64 years.

Aligning with December Issa Vybe

The E1 Lagos GP, slated for the beginning of the fourth quarter, will align its partnership with FirstBank’s popular annual campaign, #DecemberIssaVybe. This initiative celebrates the vibrant festive spirit of Nigerians by curating unforgettable experiences that blend culture, entertainment, and lifestyle.

Ijabiyi noted that by serving as the presenting partner, FirstBank will create meaningful touchpoints with customers, offering a world-class experience that captures the true essence of Lagos during the festive season.

Lagos State Commends Partnership

Gbenga Omotoso, Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, who was also present at the event, lauded FirstBank for its support.

Omotoso stated that the E1 Lagos GP is an initiative that will not only grow the sport but also serve to showcase Lagos’s vibrant culture, dynamic people, and global relevance.

The Lagos leg of the competition is expected to draw global attention, as teams owned by notable international stars including Tom Brady, LeBron James, Didier Drogba, Will Smith, Marc Anthony, Steve Aoki, and Rafael Nadal will compete before the 2025 season terminates in Miami, USA.
