DELTA POLICE SMASH CULT NETWORK, ARREST FOUR SUSPECTS; RECOVER FIREARMS, AMMUNITION AND DRUGS IN COORDINATED OPERATIONS
The Delta State Police Command has recorded another major operational breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on cultism, armed robbery, and other violent crimes across the state, arresting four suspects and recovering firearms, ammunition, dangerous weapons, and illicit drugs in separate intelligence-led operations.
The Command said the coordinated raids, carried out between April 11 and 12, 2026, disrupted suspected cult activities in Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government Area, and Ibusa, in Oshimili North Local Government Area, reaffirming its commitment to restoring peace and public safety.
On April 11, 2026, at about 11:45am, operatives of the Delta Shield surveillance team, while on routine patrol in Orerokpe, intercepted a 32-year-old suspect, Peter Onajite, during a stop-and-search operation.
A search conducted on him led to the recovery of the following: One locally made double-barrel cut-to-size pistol; Two live cartridges; one expended cartridge and several sachets of suspected Tramadol
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly confessed to being a leader of the Juris Confraternity, a claim the police say is under further investigation. The suspect remains in custody as detectives intensify probe into his activities and possible criminal networks.
In a separate operation on April 12, 2026, at about 1:00pm, operatives attached to the Ibusa Police Division acted on credible intelligence regarding a suspected cult initiation involving members of the Aiye confraternity.
The operation, carried out at Jordan Road, Ibusa, led to the arrest of three suspects, including a female, while the alleged principal suspect, identified as Chinedu Onyeama, reportedly fled the scene.
A search of the premises led to the recovery of one English-made Beretta pistol with one live round;
three battle axes; one hammer; one cutlass and thirty-nine firelighters.
Police said the recovered items indicate preparation for violent cult-related activity, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and other accomplices.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State commended the operatives for their swift, professional, and intelligence-driven response in both operations, describing the successes as a clear warning to criminal elements operating in the state.
He reiterated the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-led policing and intensify clampdown on cultism, armed robbery, and other violent crimes, urging youths to steer clear of cult groups and criminal associations capable of destroying their future.
The Command assured residents of continued proactive operations aimed at ensuring safety, peace, and security across all parts of Delta State, while investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
