In a bold move to protect its assets and boost revenue, the Anambra State government, under Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has formed a high-powered committee to recover government lands in and around the state that have been illegally occupied, grabbed, or misused.
This decision was made at the 25th Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) meeting, held recently at the Lighthouse, Awka, as part of the government's ongoing efforts to improve land administration and ensure that the state's resources are utilised for the benefit of the citizens.
The Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, stated that the committee will work tirelessly to identify, recover, and repossess all government lands that have been encroached upon. "The government will not tolerate any further encroachment on its lands and will take all necessary steps to protect its assets," Mefor emphasised.
He said the committee will collaborate closely with relevant agencies, stakeholders, and security personnel to ensure the successful recovery of these lands.
The committee's mandate includes; conducting a comprehensive audit of all government lands in Anambra State, Identifying and verifying all government lands that have been encroached upon, grabbed, or misused, collaborating with security agencies to remove all illegal occupants and structures on government lands, ensuring the recovered lands are used for the benefit of all citizens, and recommending measures to prevent future occurrences.
The Anambra State government also urges all citizens to support its efforts to recover and protect government lands, and to report any information on illegal activities related to government lands to the relevant authorities.
The committee is expected to work diligently to attain its mandate and ensure that the recovered lands contribute to the state’s development.
