Turning Knowledge into Lifesaving Action: Nestlé Nigeria and Partners Launch National Water Quality Handbook
A landmark collaboration driving behaviour change, safeguarding public health, and redefining water safety in Nigeria
In a country where access to safe water remains both a necessity and a challenge, a powerful alliance is stepping forward, not just with solutions, but with measurable impact.
Nestlé Nigeria Plc, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation and the Organised Private Sector in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (OPS-WASH), has unveiled the National Water Quality Advocacy Handbook, a transformative tool designed not only to inform, but to drive nationwide behavioural change at scale.
Launched at the Annual Water Quality Conference in Abuja, the handbook anchors a national advocacy campaign built on one clear ambition:
To convert awareness into sustained, life-saving action.
From Policy to Practice: Designed for Measurable Change
The handbook translates complex water safety principles into simple, actionable guidance, but more importantly, it is backed by a robust impact framework to ensure real-world outcomes.

A National Priority: Driving Awareness at Scale
The Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Terlumun Utsev, reinforced the importance of measurable awareness:
“Improving water quality outcomes in Nigeria requires sustained public awareness and education. This initiative ensures that knowledge reaches communities in ways that can be tracked, measured, and translated into healthier lives.”
Beyond Business: Measurable Shared Value
Speaking on behalf of Nestlé Nigeria, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Lead, Victoria Uwadoka, highlighted the company’s commitment to impact beyond intent:
“Our goal is not just to inform, but to see measurable improvements in how water is handled, stored, and consumed across Nigerian households. This handbook allows us to track progress, strengthen accountability, and deliver real value to communities.”
Collective Action, Quantifiable Results
For OPS-WASH, the initiative represents a shift toward data-driven collaboration.
Dr. Nicholas Igwe, National Coordinator, noted:
“This handbook is not just a guide but it is a performance tool. It enables us to identify gaps, track interventions, and scale solutions that deliver measurable improvements in water safety nationwide.”
From Pages to Practice: Scaling Impact Nationwide
To ensure sustained results, the campaign will deploy:
Multi-channel distribution (digital, print, community networks)
Grassroots engagement programs with measurable participation targets
Monitoring & evaluation frameworks to track adoption and health outcomes
This ensures the initiative evolves from a one-time launch into a long-term national behaviour change program.
A Movement Measured by Impact
What sets this initiative apart is not just its ambition but its accountability.
By embedding clear KPIs, tracking behavioural shifts, and aligning with national health priorities, the National Water Quality Advocacy Handbook becomes more than a communication tool, it becomes a scalable model for public health transformation.
Because in the end, success is not just in what people learn
But in what they do, and the lives that are improved because of it.
