Troops of the Joint Task Force under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled coordinated attacks by terrorists who attempted to overrun several military positions in Borno State, killing a number of insurgents, including some of their field commanders.

The attacks, which occurred late Thursday night and continued into the early hours of Friday, targeted military locations in Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok.

According to a statement released by the spokesman of the Joint Task Force, Sanni Uba, the insurgents launched the coordinated assaults between about 10:30 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. in what appeared to be an attempt to breach military defensive positions.

However, he said the attackers met strong resistance from troops who remained on high alert and defended their locations despite the intensity of the attacks.

Uba explained that the troops quickly organised counter-operations, deploying flanking tactics while reinforcement teams from different sectors moved in to support the defence.

The coordinated response forced the insurgents to retreat after suffering significant casualties.

He noted that although parts of the defensive perimeter were briefly penetrated in isolated areas, troops swiftly mounted counter-attacks that restored full control of the affected positions.

During the confrontations, several insurgent fighters were neutralised, including some key leaders believed to be commanding the attacking groups.

Despite the intensity of the exchange of fire, the military maintained control of all the targeted bases, although some facilities within the locations sustained damage.

The operation also involved aerial support, with the Air Component conducting targeted strikes against fleeing insurgents and suspected hostile positions during the night.

The air operations further weakened the attackers and helped prevent them from regrouping.

Troops have since begun follow-up operations across the affected areas, recovering weapons, equipment and the bodies of neutralised insurgents left behind after the clashes.

The military, however, confirmed that some personnel lost their lives during the battles, including an officer who was said to have led his troops from the front during the engagement.

The statement described the fallen soldiers as courageous personnel who paid the ultimate price while defending the country and safeguarding civilians.
