Green Africa Bolsters Fleet with Second Owned Aircraft, Deepens Financing Partnership with Access Bank
Nigeria’s Lagos-based value airline, Green Africa, has recorded another major growth milestone with the acquisition of its second owned aircraft, reinforcing its expansion drive and long-term commitment to affordable air travel across the country.
The newly acquired aircraft, an ATR 72-600 with manufacturer’s serial number 1064 and registration mark 5N-GAC, is expected to enter commercial service shortly, subject to routine regulatory approvals. The addition will significantly boost capacity on Green Africa’s existing domestic routes and support the airline’s growing network.
As with the airline’s first aircraft acquisition, Access Bank Plc, one of Africa’s largest financial institutions, provided the naira-denominated debt facility that partly funded the transaction—further strengthening a strategic asset-financing partnership between both organisations.
Commenting on the development, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Green Africa, Babawande Afolabi, described the acquisition as a critical step in building a resilient and scalable airline.
“We are delighted to welcome our second owned aircraft (5N-GAC) to the fleet. The addition of 5N-GAC will help strengthen a sustainable foundation for Green Africa to grow and deliver on its promise to provide safe, reliable, and affordable air travel to a broader group of customers in the country and across the continent at scale,” Afolabi said.
On his part, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank, Roosevelt Ogbonna, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting businesses that deliver long-term economic value.
“At Access Bank, we are committed to empowering businesses that drive economic progress and create long-term value for society. Our partnership with Green Africa reflects our confidence in visionary enterprises that are transforming critical sectors of the economy,” Ogbonna stated.
He added that the bank’s continued support was driven by Green Africa’s strong operational performance.
“Following the strong performance of Green Africa’s first aircraft acquisition, we are proud to extend our support for this second aircraft, which will further enhance capacity and accelerate growth. We remain steadfast in our mission to provide innovative financial solutions that enable businesses to scale, thrive, and contribute meaningfully to Africa’s development.”
The latest acquisition underscores Green Africa’s deliberate strategy to build owned assets, enhance operational efficiency, and deepen its footprint in Nigeria’s aviation sector, while leveraging strong institutional partnerships to drive sustainable growth.
