Dangote Refinery Debunks Claims of Importing High-Sulphur Petrol, Clarifies Feedstock Imports

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has strongly refuted recent media reports alleging that it is importing finished petrol with high sulphur content into Nigeria, labeling the claims as false, malicious, and misleading.
In a statement issued on Friday, the company clarified that the cargo in question is not finished petrol but an intermediate feedstock, a standard global practice for world-scale complex refineries aimed at optimizing production and product quality.
"The cargo in question is an intermediate feedstock, not finished petrol," the company stated. "It will be fully refined in our processing units to meet both Nigerian and international quality standards."
Adherence to Global Quality Benchmarks
Operating within a Free Trade Zone, the refinery reaffirmed that it only refines and sells high-quality fuels that fully comply with all regulatory specifications.
The management pointed to its track record of exporting petroleum products to the United States and Europe markets known for having the world’s most stringent regulations as evidence of its strict adherence to global quality and safety benchmarks.
Dangote Refinery further noted that all imported feedstocks are accompanied by quality certificates, which are transparently shared with regulators. The company expressed its willingness to make these documents available to the public in the interest of full transparency and accountability.
The refinery concluded by reaffirming its unwavering commitment to advancing Nigeria’s energy independence and delivering cleaner, high-quality fuels for both domestic and international markets.
