Army Chief commissions projects, commends 81 division troops for discipline, regional deployment

The Nigerian Army (NA) Chief of Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Wednesday, in his operational visit to the 81 division Area of Responsibility (AR) in Lagos and Ogun States, commissioned key developmental projects and addressing troops at the 65 Battalion, Bonny Camp in Lagos. 

General Shaibu strongly emphasized that troop welfare is a top priority and commended the division for maintaining peace and security across the critical economic zone.

Addressing the troops, General Shaibu affirmed reports from the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Farouq Mijinyawa, indicating improved security and commendable discipline.

 "Your welfare in terms of accommodation, allowances, the education of your children and healthcare will ensure its give top priority," General Shaibu stated. He guaranteed that any issues brought to the attention of officers "will be addressed quickly."

 He noted that there is a tremendous reduction in service related offenses and urged soldiers to maintain the core values and soldier creed.

The COAS singled out the officers and men of the 81 division for special commendation regarding their rapid response and effective mobilization that led to a deployment to restore democracy in the Republic of the Niger.

 "That is the hallmark of soldiering, i say congratulation to all of you," the COAS said.

Earlier on Wednesday, General Shaibu commissioned several projects at the Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja Cantonment, Ikeja, Lagos, aimed at enhancing personnel welfare and operational readiness. 

The projects commissioned includes refurbished Basketball court sponsored by First Bank; remodeled Quarter Guard, funded by Airpeace Airlines and as well as newly completed 9 Brigade HQ complex executed under the leadership of the immediate past Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Mathew Oyekola. 

General Shaibu lauded the support of corporate partners and planted a tree, symbolizing the Army’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
