Olowo Hails Tinubu's Appointment of Dr. Akinola as SWDC MD, Outlines Key Priorities

Owo, Ondo State –The Olowo of Owo kingdom, HRH Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye II, has commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Dr. Charles Akinola as the Managing Director of the South West Development Commission (SWDC). 

Dr. Akinola, a seasoned public policy advisor and development strategist with over 30 years of experience, was appointed on May 8th, 2025.

Oba Ogunoye described Dr. Akinola’s appointment as “putting a square peg in a square hole,” expressing confidence that he will facilitate social and economic development in the South West.

The traditional ruler highlighted Dr. Akinola's extensive training, political experience, and exposure as key factors that will contribute to his success in the role.

"Dr. Akinola is a man of good character, good learning, and is dedicated to working for the interest of the Yoruba people," Oba Ogunoye stated. "This appointment is a call to service, and I am confident he will render selfless service for the benefit of the Yoruba land."

Oba Olowo, who noted Dr. Akinola’s early connection to Owo kingdom, believes that the “Omoluabi” principles instilled in him during his formative years will guide him in driving the region's growth and development.

He urged Dr. Akinola to prioritize key areas, including:

Security: Emphasizing the need for a well-equipped and technologically advanced policing system across the South West, particularly as state police initiatives progress.

Youth Employment and Skills Acquisition: Advocating for training programs in skilled labor and the revitalization of technical colleges to reduce unemployment among both educated and uneducated youths.

Agriculture:Promoting value addition to agricultural produce and establishing industrial clusters for processing and exporting to boost foreign exchange earnings.

"The commission should network across the length and breadth of Yoruba land and ensure that our policing system will be top-notch and well-equipped with modern facilities, especially using Information Communication Technology (ICT), to secure the South West," Oba Ogunoye stated.

He also called for the establishment of industries to process agricultural produce for export, aiming to enrich the Yoruba nation and position it as a leading region.

"We appreciate Mr. President for finding this wonderful personality to be charged with these moral roles and highly demanding office," Oba Ogunoye concluded.
