New Initiative Connects Entrepreneur Well-being with Business Longevity in Lagos

LAGOS, Nigeria – May 30, 2025 – In a significant move to foster the well-being and sustainability of Nigerian enterprises, Hydrogen Payment Services Company Limited has joined forces with the Lagos State Government, specifically the Ikeja Local Government Area and the Office of the Medical Officer of Health, to deliver the impactful Healthy Heart, Healthy Business “outreach. The initiative, conducted on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat, successfully engaged thousands of business owners through a blend of in-person participation and extensive digital awareness campaigns.
Participants at the outreach benefited from a comprehensive suite of free medical screenings, including vital checks such as blood pressure, ECGs, malaria and typhoid testing, urinalysis, packed cell volume (PCV), and blood sugar monitoring. This array of services underscored the critical, often-overlooked connection between personal health and business longevity.
Kemi Okusanya, CEO of Hydrogen, commented on the initiative, reaffirming her company's deep commitment to the success of Nigerian businesses. “At Hydrogen, we are deeply committed to the success of Nigerian businesses. As a payment solutions provider, we recognise that healthy entrepreneurs build stronger, more resilient enterprises. This outreach exemplifies our belief in supporting entrepreneurs beyond just payments,” she stated.
Demonstrating this commitment tangibly, Hydrogen donated essential health monitoring devices, including Sphygmomanometers (blood pressure monitors) and Glucometers (blood sugar meters), to indigent and high-risk attendees who might otherwise struggle to afford them. This empowers beneficiaries to manage their health proactively long after the outreach concludes.
The event served as a prime example of the growing importance of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in driving sustainable development. Dr. Tawak O.F. , Medical Officer of Health for Ikeja, lauded the collaboration, stating, “This partnership with Hydrogen Payment Services Company Limited exemplifies the power of effective public-private collaboration in reaching the heart of our business community.”
Dr. Tawak further emphasized a common challenge faced by entrepreneurs: "Entrepreneurs often overlook their health while striving for success, but initiatives like this remind us all that good health is an essential part of wealth. We commend Hydrogen for their commitment to not just powering payments, but also powering healthier, more resilient businesses through impactful community engagement.”
The direct impact of the outreach resonated with beneficiaries. Mary, a merchant from ‘Computer Village’ and one of the grateful attendees, expressed her appreciation: “Most of us don’t think about regular hospital checkups. Mainly, because the cost is too high and some things now are not covered by insurance. Today, Hydrogen and Lagos State have brought doctors for free to our doorstep, and we are very grateful.”
Hydrogen’s full team presence at the event underscored the company’s dedication to forging genuine relationships and standing firmly with the business communities it serves, moving beyond transactional engagements to holistic support.
