Sheika Daley is a talented makeup artist and beauty expert known for her impactful work in fashion and entertainment. She shared her experience during the1st masterclass on Sunday at the GTCO fashion weekend in Lagos.

Sheika who gained her recognition for skin- focused approach to makeup shared that most of what you think that might not be of interest usually ended up becoming the most valuable interesting thing putting out on the internet really be the most exciting one. Like sometimes you think that something isn't important, impactful and think nobody really cares about it, But when you put it out into the world, then you will actually see that it has impacted many.

“Sometimes when i got into certain spaces by a personal need, I didn't have a plan on creating the Break. But what I noticed was that there was a lot of questions I was getting from young women about my finances, or financial issues that most of them were dealing with and the information was not readily accessible to them and when people did not get conversations about industry, girls will come up to me and ask me about taxes and about problems that they were having”

“I sit down and write plans for people all the time. I said, let me create a channel so that i can have all of these discussions and anyone who wants it as a resource can have access to it so that they can leave me alone. That was the plan”

“ Then, i told my parents that i have focused on something and they should let me see if I can do this thing well and be successful and inevitably I will tell them later. I can tell them I'm working and they just don't know need to know the details. But what's so funny is that my parents at some point in time realized that I had left my job but I was doing really well and they said they were happy for me to do whatever i want to do as long as you do it well”

“I think that is something that is very much in Nigerian way of thinking, like you just have to be the best version of this and they are very proud of me now with what I do in my career” Daley stated

She then advise the audience to pursue whatever things that were interested in and see what happens.

Daley further stated on how she has been an inspiration to many content creators and were able to leverage on her influence and popularity,

“This is a mantra that I live by. I wrote a book and I have a chapter which is called be like Madonna. So Madonna is like 68 now, but she's been around since the 80s, and almost every four to five years, she reinvented her genre of music, her personality, her traits, what she was into, because people get bored of things”

“If you are on social media, a content creator, you have to realize that you are almost like a consumable product in such away that nobody would wants to have bread and butter every day because sometimes they will want jam, sometimes they want peanut butter”

“As I became more strategic in building my platform, I recognized that having to switch up was going to be something that would give me the longevity that I needed in this space. As human beings, we get bored, we change, we grow, we want to explore new things and have new interests” she said

She further share more of her experiences on where she discovered her talent and become what she is today

“i was a ballerina and a dancer. I danced until I was like 13 years old. So, I was doing recitals ever since I was like 5. And I remember one of the recitals went to my mum came backstage and she did our makeup. It was me and my sister. All the other girls were like, can she do that to me? And she ended up doing all the girls' makeup with one eyeshadow palette. I thought she was a superhero”

“ So, seeing her as an artist and being influenced by different arts. Because my dad was a DJ. So, I had being with alots of musical influence growing up”

Having those things come together and seeing how she powerful became in that moment with just this one eyeshadow palette. She was my superhero and I wanted to be like that for everybody else. Looking at a large number of young people that have seen you as a role model and accomplished makeup artist.

She however stated her goal working with Nigerian young people

“My goal is to come to Nigeria and be more often. I have been driving through the streets and just looking at all the different tones and complexions and skin here in Nigeria is so beautiful”

“I think everybody here is so amazing. And I want to be able to really tap into that and touch them and feel them. And also wish to create products that are specifically for them and that’s give them everything that they need”

“Not a brand that's looking to extend to give you a few things. I want something that's specifically for them”

She added that her goal is to come back to Nigeria and to shake things up. DTV has been doing this for years now.

She further added that DTV has been doing greatly by creating this platform to showcase fashion.

“I would love to come back year after year and continue to educate everyone as much as I can”

“I can only give so much information in 30 minutes which is what you saw that I had demonstrated in the masterclass. And there are so much knowledge out there that I would love to be able to share with everyone,
