The Super Eagles of Nigeria will continue their quest for a fourth AFCON title against the Palancas Negras of Angola on Friday at the ongoing TotalEnergies AFCON 2024 Côte D’Ivoire. The match will be broadcast live on GOtv.
Ademola Lookman’s brace against Cameroon handed the Nigerians a third consecutive AFCON victory over the Indomitable Lions as they set up a crucial quarter-final clash with Angola. Tune in SuperSport Football (ch 61) at 6pm to watch the Super Eagles live.
Speaking after his heroic display in the Round of 16, Atalanta forward, Lookman assured fans that the team will be ready to challenge their latest opponent. "Angola are a good team. We'll analyse them and prepare. The further you go, the tougher it gets so we'll take it game by game,” he said.
Angola booked their place in the quarter-final against Nigeria on the back of an impressive 3-0 victory against Namibia with ten men. Jacinto Dala scored a brace and provided an assist for Mabululu to ensure the Palancas Negras secured their first ever knockout stage victory.
Nigeria and Angola have clashed on ten previous occasions. The Super Eagles emerged victorious three times, drew five and lost two. The Angolans remember with fondness their 1-0 victory over Nigeria in the 2006 World Cup Qualifiers, which ultimately proved decisive to their advancement at the expense of the Super Eagles.
Also on Friday, DR Congo and Guinea will go head to head live on SuperSport Football (ch 61) at 9pm. While DR Congo advanced on penalties against Egypt, Guinea stunned tournament high flyers, Equatorial Guinea in 0-1 defeat.
