FCT Police nabs 50 suspected Vandals of Government Properties, Recovers 25 Manholes Covers, Others.

The operatives of the FCT Police Command in Abuja, Nigeria, West Africa, have nabbed over 50 suspected Vandals who specializes in vandalised and stolen of various property in FCT and its environs in Abuja.  

The Command in continues partnership in shared commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property within the Abuja and FCT announced a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to tackle the menace of vandalism, which poses serious risks to public safety and infrastructure.

According to the Commissioner of Police, CP, Tunji Disu, during the media briefing on Monday, stated that the Command has successfully arrested groups of suspects involved in the vandalism and theft of manhole covers within the territory.

 “Our operatives conducted a targeted operation, leading to the arrest of 50 suspects and recovery of 25 manhole covers, 3 vehicles, vandalized solar street lights, galvanized rods used in the construction of flyovers, other tools used in vandalizing these government installations, and several other exhibits at various panteka hotspots in Kabusa, Garki, Mabushi and Wuse”

 “Investigations have revealed that these individuals operate as part of a larger network, selling stolen manhole covers to scrap dealers. This criminal activity endangers the lives of the general public by creating hazards on roads and walkways while undermining the integrity of public infrastructure”

“Exhibits recovered were 25 galvanized manhole covers; 5 solar street lights; several galvanized poles used in the construction of flyovers;15 street light poles cut into smaller pieces; several rolls of high voltage AEDC cables; 2 locally made pistols; 2 live cartridges; 1 sharp knife; 30 tubes of triple sub glue; Several charms; Others includes 13 large solar panels; 7 barrels of diesel suspected to have been stolen from network masts; 1 Volkswagen sporter bus with Reg. No. BJK 592 XA reconstructed into a diesel tanker; 1 Toyota Carina II vehicle with Reg. No. RBC 312 JL; several iron rebar rods; 9 car tire rims; 1 fire extinguisher;11 plasma TV sets; several decoders and remotes; 13 cement bags; 2 reinforced iron doors; 3 pumping machines suspected to be used in extracting diesel; 2 car batteries; 1 photo frame; 1pack of tiles; 16 plastic chairs; 3 generators; 1 aluminum ladder; 1 wheel barrow; 1 roll of roofing sheets; 2 gas cylinders; 1 indoor and outdoor AC Unit; 4 sumo water pumps and several iron cutting tools”

The CP noted that the diversity and volume of recovered items highlight the extensive and organized nature of these syndicates, whose activities have caused significant harm to public infrastructure projects and services in the FCT.

This achievement underscores our unwavering commitment to protecting the critical infrastructure of the Federal Capital Territory.
