Smile Communications Adjusts Tariff, Commits To Delivering Unmatched Value To Customers With Diverse Data And Voice Plan

Smile Communications Nigeria has expressed its support for the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) following its decision to approve a 50 per cent tariff adjustment in the telecommunications industry. The adjustment, which aligns with prevailing market conditions, reflects the NCC’s commitment to ensuring the sustainability and growth of the sector while safeguarding consumer interests.
As one of Nigeria’s leading telecom providers, Smile Communications recognizes the challenges posed by rising operational costs and the need for investments in infrastructure and innovation to improve service delivery. “This decision is a necessary step towards maintaining a resilient and forward-looking telecommunications sector,” said Goke Olaleye, Head of Marketing Operations at Smile Communications.
“For us at Smile, the tariff adjustment allows us to continue delivering on our promise of seamless connectivity while investing in technologies that enhance the customer experience.”
The NCC, in a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Reuben Muoka, had emphasized that the decision was reached after extensive consultations with stakeholders and is designed to bridge the gap between operational costs and service delivery. The adjustment will support operators in providing improved network quality, enhanced customer service, and broader coverage.
Smile Communications has reiterated its commitment to transparency and fairness in implementing the new tariff structure. The company is actively engaging with its subscribers to ensure they are well-informed about the adjustments and the corresponding service improvements. “We understand the concerns of our customers and small business owners who rely heavily on our services,” Goke added.
“That’s why we are doubling down on efforts to enhance connectivity and provide value-driven solutions.”
The NCC’s decision marks the first significant tariff adjustment since 2013, addressing the financial strains faced by operators while ensuring that the Nigerian telecom sector continues to thrive in a competitive global market. Smile Communications, alongside other industry players, remains dedicated to contributing to the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy by fostering innovation and supporting local vendors and suppliers.
This development underscores the importance of collaboration between regulatory authorities and industry players to achieve a balance between sustainability and consumer protection in Nigeria’s telecommunications landscape.
