Osesua Led-PTD National Leadership Commiserates With Agbor Tanker Explosion Victims
The National leadership of Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) Branch of NUPENG has commiserated with the families of the victims, as well as the Government of Delta State, affected by the unfortunate tanker explosion.
PTD expressed this in a heartfelt statement jointly signed by its National Chairman, Comrade Lucky Osesua, his two deputies, Comrade Dayyabu Garga, Comrade (Chief) Monday Moudebelu (ONWA) and the National Secretary, Comrade (Dr) Humble Obinna Power on Monday in Abuja.
The Union leaders who conveyed their condolences to the people of Delta State, stated that their thoughts and prayers were with the affected families and the residents of the state at a time when the celebration of the new year was still on.
It is recalled that the unfortunate incident occurred in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, where at least five persons reportedly died, and properties were destroyed when a tanker carrying petrol lost control and burst into flames Sunday afternoon.
The PTD leadership further applauded the Delta State Government especially the Governor and Deputy Governor for not only commiserating with the victims and visiting the accident scenes, but for showing commitment to compensate those affected and giving assurance to carry out remedial works on the damaged area.
“Your Excellencies, the Governor and Deputy Governor of Delta State, you have exhibited laudable signs of good leadership by giving a message of hope and sympathizing with the entire Ika community, especially the victims, and the families of the victims. You have written your names in gold and posterity will be kind to you,” PTD said.
The Tanker Drivers equally explained that such incidents underscored the importance of making the road infrastructure good enough for road users especially for the hardworking tanker drivers who are toiling day and night to ensure the supply and distribution of petroleum products across the country.
They, however, urged all road users to exercise caution and to always await the FRSC’s emergency and rescue operatives to handle any such emergencies whilst also putting into cognizance safety precautions. This, they said, was because the Tankers contained highly inflammable substances, which could result in severe injuries and fatalities.
PTD also affirmed that its members across the four zones of the country have redoubled their commitment to ensure that all tankers strictly adhere to the recommended safety standards before being allowed to load petroleum products, stressing that there will be no sacred cows.
The Union leaders also assured that they will not rest on their oars to deepen safety measures and as well collaborate effectively with relevant stakeholders in building a symbiotic relationship that can keep Nigeria roads safe for all and sundry.
