Nigerian Idol: Theatre Week Ends as Lucky Contestants Proceed to Live Show
Nigerian Idol Season 9 has surely been a rollercoaster of emotions, especially for the contestants and the judges. From amazing performances to intense auditions and sad exits, this season has been a burst of emotions.
Following an intense couple of weeks of Theatre Week, featuring duet battles and solo performances, nine contestants have made it to the Top 10 on Nigerian Idol, with one more slot left to be filled as Lammy and Japh Kenti seek votes this week to secure a spot.
Chioma was the first contestant to secure a place in the top 10, impressing the judges with her outstanding solo performance of Jennifer Hudson’s hit song, "If This Isn’t Love." Her hard work and talent were evident, earning her a well-deserved spot among the top contenders.
While talents like Lady Ruth, Mira, David and Jennifer stood out to earn a coveted spot in the top 10, it was heartbreaking to see contestants like Dakor, Sammie Voice, JayB, Teddy, and many others say goodbye. Mikki and Japeth, platinum ticket winners, also bid farewell after their solo performances as they failed to make it to the top 10.
Chima, however, proved worthy of his platinum ticket as he delivered an impressive performance of Giveon’s "Stuck on You" to proceed to the live shows. Jennifer Igomu had a double celebration, marking her birthday and a well-deserved pass to the top 10 after performing Lady Gaga’s "I’ll Never Love Again."
Maio, who only made it to the top 20 last year, broke a personal record as he joined the top 10 with his soulful delivery of Lloyiso's Seasons, evoking strong emotions. Gracia also excelled, pouring her heart and soul into a stunning performance of Adele's Turning Tables.
With 9 contestants confirmed in the top 10 so far, the battle for the final spot is now between Japh Kenti and Lammy. Viewers can now help either Lammy or Japh Kenti to secure the 10th spot. Voting is free on the MyDStv or MyGOtv apps, or on the Africa Magic website – africamagic.tv/nigerianidol (web and mobile). Voting ends at 8pm on Thursday, and the winner will be announced during the next episode, which will be the live show.
