Innovation Without Excavation: JMG Equips J.K. Randle Centre with Shaftless, Energy-Efficient Elevators for Full Accessibility

LAGOS, Nigeria – June 2, 2025– JMG Limited, a prominent provider of integrated power and mobility solutions in Nigeria, has successfully completed a specialized vertical transportation project at the J.K. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History in Lagos. This initiative has significantly enhanced accessibility at the landmark cultural institution, accommodating a diverse visitor base including the elderly and handicapped.

The project presented unique architectural challenges as the Centre lacked pre-existing shafts, pits, or overhead clearance, both inside and outside the museum. To overcome these constraints and meet the demand for inclusive access, JMG supplied and installed one TKE Velino Escalator, two units of TKE H-Series Home Elevators (H-100 and H-200), and one TKE Evolution Commercial Elevator.

A key highlight of this installation was the deployment of the TKE H-Series Home Elevators. These elevators are uniquely designed to operate without the need for a pre-constructed shaft or pit, making them an ideal solution for environments with architectural limitations. This design advantage proved crucial in enabling safe and efficient vertical transport across various sections of the Centre without requiring major structural modifications.

Inside the museum, the H-100 elevator was installed despite the absence of a shaft, pit, and overhead clearance. It operates on a single-phase power supply, contributing to both energy efficiency and reduced operational costs. For the outdoor area, the H-200 was installed, utilizing a waterproof hydraulic system with low power consumption, also without requiring any shaft or pit. This model is particularly suited for outdoor, space-restricted locations and was specifically chosen to enhance accessibility for visitors with physical challenges.

"Thanks to JMG’s solutions and products, we have been able to have better flow of people in our museum. It was especially important for us, as a museum, to ensure that everyone — including visitors with physical challenges — can access and enjoy the full experience,” stated a representative of the J.K. Randle Centre.

The upgrades have transformed the J.K. Randle Centre into a fully inclusive cultural space. Students, tourists, researchers, and individuals with mobility challenges can now independently explore its heritage exhibits, fostering a more equitable and enriching experience for all.

Rabi Jammal, Group General Manager of JMG Limited, expressed pride in the project. “We’re proud to support a landmark institution as significant as the J.K. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History. This was a very important project for us, and accessibility was the core challenge, so we worked closely with our team to deliver the best possible solutions to ensure that all visitors, without exception, could move through the museum safely and efficiently,” she said. “With innovative, low-maintenance elevator technology tailored to even the most complex environments, we’re helping make cultural heritage truly accessible to all.”
