Former INEC Chairman's Family, Announces Loss of Professor Nwosu
The family of former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have announced the huge loss of their father, Father-in-law and Grandfather, Professor Humphrey Nwosu, who passed away in the lord
The was contained in a statement on behalf of the family, Ossy and Ogay Irono family through Dr. Emmanuel Ossy Irono, Washington DC, stated that with a huge sense of loss but with gratitude to God, I hereby announce the loss of our father, father-in-law, and grandfather, Professor Humphrey Nwosu, who passed away on Oct 20, 2024 at the age of 83.
“Prof Nwosu was an eminent scholar of political science and public administration, a statesman, and a strong voice for democracy”
“He served as Chairman of Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (NEC), from 1989 to 1993. To millions of Nigerian citizens, he remains a hero for helping establish the country's recent democratic foundation”
The family stated further that, in his academic career, he tutored and mentored many Nigerian leaders, business professionals, and politicians, leaving a lasting impact on the nation’s goals of development and unity.
According to family he was a first class graduate of UNN, and University of California at Berkeley, where he obtained his Masters and PhD degrees.
“He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Stella Nwosu, 4 children, 6 grandchildren, brothers, numerous nephews, nieces and inlaws. One of his children Dr Oge Irono is my beloved wife”
“Whilst we await official announcement of the funeral program from the Nwosu family, I will like you to join me and my family in praying for the repose of the soul of our beloved father, Prof Humphrey Nwosu” family stated.
