CRAN Call For More Sensitization By NDLEA, Others To Reduce Menace Of Drug Abuse
The president of Crimes Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) Comrade Olalekan Olabulo, has Called on the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other security agencies to do more in sensitising the same schools children and communities on the danger of drugs abuse in our society.
He stated that despite millions of arrest, seizures and prosecution, the country has no given impact on drug abuse.
He said that NDLEA and others security agencies need to do more engagement in public sensitization in schools, garage and communities joint as a way of fighting the menace of drug abuse in our country.
Olabulo made this remarkable point during the celebrations of 2024 international day against drugs abuse and Illicit Trafficking theme; “the evidence is clear, invest in prevention “ organised by the CRAN for various schools in Lagos and its environment held at police officers mess, Ikeja, Lagos.
“Almost every day we hear the NDLEA arresting, prosecuting people and seizing millions of things but that has not really given the impact on drug abuse”
“I want to advise NDLEA, and other security agencies to engage in public sensitization in schools and communities as a way of fighting the menace of drug abuse in our country”
“Investigation has shown that some of the crimes we have in the country and all over the world are perpetrated by some of these heinous crimes”
“Our coming here today is not just about drugs but to fight banditry. kidnapping, drug abuse, cultism, and any form of social vices that affect our nation economy”
He stated that as a members of CRAN, we have taken it as our modest support and contribution to the society to fight crime through our sensitisation of students and other member of student in a broader base, adding that drug abuse is not particular to any form of
people, drugs abuse is everywhere and it Is worrisome.
He added that all this thing taken into our society was not there in the past and therefore urged the NDLEA and other security agencies to up their game to fight the menace of drug abuse.
“Your effort is not enough” CRAN emphasised.
Also speaking Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jesus Care Reformation Centre for Drug Abuse and Misuse, Daniel Osita Collins, called on all Nigerians to join hands to rescue the young generation by reporting any crime around us to police.
He said all must be done to discourage those who are promoting drugs and chemical substances with their music, movies and their clubs.
He also expressed worry that children are taking after the musicians as their role models.
